Achievement Award

Every year, Soroptimist International of Lodi gives the Achievement Award, which is a $1,000 grant provided to young women who were formerly in foster care.  Now in the program at the Mary Graham Children's Foundation, these women are in the process of  advancing their education.

2022 Achievement Award Celebration - April 27, 2022

On April 27, 2022, SI Lodi held its annual Awards Night. We provided a $1,000 Achievement Award to a deserving young woman to help her further her education.  This year's recipient is currently enrolled at San Francisco State University, where she is working toward a Bachelor of Sociology.  Pictured below is Rebecca Fisher, Executive Director of the Mary Graham Children's Foundation, who accepted the award on the recipient's behalf since she had a scheduling conflict.

2020 & 2021 Achievement Award Celebration - May 27, 2021

On May 27, SI Lodi hosted a virtual evening of celebration of its grant winners for 2020 and 2021.  During this time period, SI Lodi provided three $1,000 Achievement Awards to qualified and deserving local women to help them further their education.

Achievement Award - 2020

Although we had to cancel the award ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SI Lodi still gave the Achievement Award to a worthy recipient in 2020. She contacted us as the year was coming to a close to let the club know that she was in college and caring for her 2-year-old son.  We also learned that she had ongoing financial challenges.  In order to be of assistance, club members donated $500 to purchase a Visa gift card as well as goods she and her son needed.

The Soroptimist Achievement Award is presented to women who have survived a challenging youth and graduated from the foster care program. Recipients are recommended by the Mary Graham Children's Foundation. Two $1,000 awards were given this year to sisters Breanna Palmer and Darrian Palmer Gregg. Both sisters are committed to academic excellence and have achieved outstanding grades. They each plan to pursue careers in the health sciences. Breanna’s award was given in memory of Maxine Crow, who passed away in January. Maxine joined Soroptimist in 1984 and served in multiple leadership positions. She was a kind, gentle, hardworking woman who loved all and was much loved; SI Lodi greatly misses her.

Mikey Hothi, District Director from the office of Assemblymember Jim Cooper, presented recognition certificates to the award recipients. Certificates were also provided on behalf of US Representative Jerry McNerney and California State Senator Cathleen Galgiani.
