STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING

March 6, 2010

801 Lower Sacramento Rd  (Temple Baptist Church)

Speakers: Sister Caritas of “Sisters of the Holy Family”  &   Nola Brantley of MISSSEY, Inc

Co-sponsored by

Soroptimist International of Lodi, Soroptimist International of Lodi Sunrise,

American Association of University Women - Lodi Branch,

Salvation Army, Women's Center of San Joaquin, Lodi Business & Professional Women

Saturday, March 6 we held our workshop to educate the public on the subject of Human Trafficking and to raise funds for four charities that support the effort to stop human trafficking. Our speakers, Nola Brantley, cofounder of MISSSEY, Inc. (MISSSEY stands for Motivating, Inspiring, Supporting, Serving, Sexually-Exploited Youth) and Sister Caritas Foster of the Sisters of the Holy Family were both very dynamic in their presentations. After the bills were paid, we had about $2100 remaining to split between four charities: Women’s Center of San Joaquin County, MISSSEY, Inc., Sisters of the Holy Family and Soroptimist International Trafficking Awareness campaign. This is a great success, and sending over $500 to each charity should make each of us feel warm and fuzzy inside. We accomplished this task with a lot of help from many different people and groups, so I want to make sure that we recognize everyone’s efforts. Thank you cards were sent to the two vendors, Agape International Mission and TassaTags, co-sponors, donors, and speakers. SI Lodi Sunrise brought in financial donors so the costs of holding the event were covered, and the six co-sponsoring groups didn’t have to spend any money to put on the event. That was a blessing we couldn’t have foreseen. Finally, giant thanks and hugs again to Kim Williams, for being the chairman for this event and coordinating everything to make it run smoothly.  President Germaine Burke
